Climbing coconut trees for various activities such as harvesting coconuts or tapping Neera (palm sap) is a challenging and inherently risky endeavor. In the challenging and risk-filled world of coconut tree climbing, the safety and security are paramount. To address the unique risks associated with this occupation and provide support to coconut tree climbers, the Kera Suraksha Insurance scheme has been introduced and Provided by Coconut Development Board, offering financial protection and peace of mind in the face of occupational hazards. This insurance is more than a policy; it's a commitment to your wellbeing and a recognition of the invaluable work the farmers do.
Insurance Period and Renewal
The Kera Suraksha Insurance scheme extends for a duration of one year. To maintain continuous insurance protection, climbers are required to renew their insurance annually. This renewal process ensures that climbers have ongoing coverage and support throughout their careers.
Comprehensive Coverage
The insurance scheme offers comprehensive coverage, accidental injury, medical expenses, disability benefits, and support in the tragic event of a climber's demise. It's a holistic approach to safeguarding the health and well-being of those who brave the heights for the sake of coconut farming.
Eligibility and Application Procedure for Insurance
- Applicants must be engaged in occupations such as Coconut Tree Climber, Neera Technician, Coconut Harvester, or Trainee.
- The age of the applicant should fall within the range of 18 to 65 years.
- Application forms for insurance can be obtained from our branch offices.
- Complete the application form in the prescribed format, ensuring all mandatory documents

These documents include the Aadhaar card, proof of age, Declaration for Assignment, Declaration Form, and a certificate issued by a competent authority verifying the applicant’s engagement in skilled labor related to coconut farming.
- The completed application form must be countersigned by an Agriculture officer, Panchayath President, CPF office bearers, or CPC Directors, along with the required premium share.
- Following document verification, policy documents will be issued by the CDB to the applicant.
Claim Application Procedure
- Notify the branch office within 72 hours of the accident.
- Submit the claim form and mandatory documents to the branch office for verification.
- Required documents for accidents include the original Discharge summary/OP Ticket, original Medical Bills (certified by a doctor), and original Lab reports (if applicable).
- Once documents are verified, the Coconut Development Board (CDB) will issue a Discharge Voucher. The claimant must fill out the form and submit it along with a copy of Aadhaar and complete bank details.
- After verification, the amount will be credited to the bank account based on hospital bill charges.
